Well here we are in Chicago, our first day, and we end up at the Belmont Sheffield Music Fest. That’s another story, but what a great time. This neighborhood in Chicago puts on an annual street fair complete with cover bands. We have seen quite a few but the headliner was called “Wedding Banned” They turned out to be the best cover band we had seen. Now we’re hungry.
Bank Restaurant and Bar
Downtown Wheaton is one of those Chicago suburbs along the Tracks. Driven years past by the train stations, these old towns have a certain charm to them. We enjoy walking around, and it is fun to support some local businesses that are revitalizing these aging buildings. The Bank Restaurant and Bar is no exception, situated in an ancient remodeled Bank complete with the original vault door (Although in today’s terms wouldn’t keep anything secure), this location is upscale, charming, clean, and modern. Featuring two levels of dining rooms, a fantastic bar and patio, there is room for everyone.
Triple Crown Restaurant Chinatown
What visit to a big city is complete without going to Chinatown? The only problem in Chicago, the trains! That’s right, we jumped ont he red train, how convenient, it stops in China town. Riding along we noticed one problem. Just before the China town stop, it jumps tracks. That’s right, the station in Chinatown is under renovation. We had to ride a free bus from the previous stop to get there, but we weren’t going to let that stop us!
Pizzeria Due Chicago
Visiting Chicago, you are supposed to eat some Chicago style pizza right? Well where else should one go besides the iconic restaurant that started it all, Pizzeria Uno and Pizzeria Due. Two establishments that have stood the test of time, located on opposite street corners in downtown Chicago.
Mulligans restaurant, never heard of it, but we had a coupon, so why not give it a try. We did. We regret it. I normally like to really review things, but it was so bad it was comical. Let’s do it anyways.
Since we hadn’t heard of it before, it is a surprise to me that we didn’t check the online reviews first. On Urban Spoon Mulligans Restaurant has about 70 votes, and a review score of only 50%. I don’t think I have ever seen a restaurant below the sixties, and I certainly have never dined at one.
Doodles BBQ Bistro
Doodles BBQ Bistro
Well, I always try to be positive. When I started blogging about restaurants, I told myself that I didn’t want to be Debbie Downer. Well I hate to say it sometimes it is hard. I try to be reasonable, keeping everything in context, the menu prices, the reputation, the surroundings, etc. For example, you could expect a certain quality of food at Hardee’s and another quality at Ruth Chris. Now that being said, let’s talk about Doodle’s BBQ Bistro.
Dean’s Oak Ridge
Dean’s Oak Ridge. To put my review in perspective, let’s travel back in time. Several years ago, there was a restaurant location in Oak Ridge that always struggled. It was at the starting line of what is known regionally as the best place to hold and participate in regattas, at the Oak Ridge Rowing Club. I believe the place had been vacant for years when a guy came along and spent obviously a ton of money, renovated this buidling, made it absolutely spectacular, and named it the Flat Water Grill. It went from nothing to something great over night. Awesome food, good service, and spectacular scenery.
The Crown and Goose
It’s Valentine’s Day, well not really, but who really wants to fight those crowds? We got a baby sitter so the wife and I could spend an early Valentine’s night out. We had heard about the Crown and Goose and it’s great food, but never made the trip to the Old City to check it out. Man are we glad we did! THE BEST meal we have had in some time. Let’s get down to business…
Cataloochee Snow Report
Holy Snow Guns Batman!
Cataloochee Snow Report
Cataloochee does a fantastic job maintaining their area. I have skied and ridden there for many years. Watching every year how they expand more trails, add more fan guns, and improve their offerings is fun. Living in Knoxville, other than Ober Gatlinburg, this is the closest location to get some shredding in, and I’m glad it’s there.
Big Fatty’s Catering Kitchen
Big Fatty’s Catering Kitchen, if this wasn’t one of the most interesting restaurants around, then I don’t know what is. I knew this had been around for sometime, but I have been confused by the name, “Catering Kitchen”. Why would I go have a meal in a catering place? Well it turns out, it’s a full fledged restaurant. They certainly offer catering, and I know they do some special catered meals for holidays like Christmas, but that’s not why I’m here, Heck, I don’t know if I have enough area friends to order catering.
