Mulligans Restaurant

Mulligans Restaurant

April 02, 2013

Mulligans restaurant, never heard of it, but we had a coupon, so why not give it a try.   We did.  We regret it.   I normally like to really review things, but it was so bad it was comical.   Let’s do it anyways.

Since we hadn’t heard of it before, it is a surprise to me that we didn’t check the online reviews first.  On Urban Spoon Mulligans Restaurant has about 70 votes, and a review score of only 50%.   I don’t think I have ever seen a restaurant below the sixties, and I certainly have never dined at one.

Doodles BBQ Bistro

Well, I always try to be positive.   When I started blogging about restaurants, I told myself that I didn’t want to be Debbie Downer.  Well I hate to say it sometimes it is hard.  I try to be reasonable, keeping everything in context, the menu prices, the reputation, the surroundings, etc.   For example, you could expect a certain quality of food at Hardee’s and another quality at Ruth Chris.  Now that being said, let’s talk about Doodle’s BBQ Bistro.

Dean’s Oak Ridge

Dean’s Oak Ridge.  To put my review in perspective, let’s travel back in time.  Several years ago, there was a restaurant location in Oak Ridge that always struggled.  It was at the starting line of what is known regionally as the best place to hold and participate in regattas, at the Oak Ridge Rowing Club.   I believe the place had been vacant for years when a guy came along and spent obviously a ton of money, renovated this buidling, made it absolutely spectacular, and named it the Flat Water Grill. It went from nothing to something great over night.   Awesome food, good service, and spectacular scenery.

The Crown and Goose

It’s Valentine’s Day, well not really, but who really wants to fight those crowds?   We got a baby sitter so the wife and I could spend an early Valentine’s night out.  We had heard about the Crown and Goose and it’s great food, but never made the trip to the Old City to check it out.  Man are we glad we did! THE BEST meal we have had in some time.   Let’s get down to business…

Holy Snow Guns Batman!

Cataloochee Snow Report

Cataloochee does a fantastic job maintaining their area.  I have skied and ridden there for many years.  Watching every year how they expand more trails, add more fan guns, and improve their offerings is fun.   Living in Knoxville, other than Ober Gatlinburg, this is the closest location to get some shredding in, and I’m glad it’s there.

Big Fatty’s Catering Kitchen, if this wasn’t one of the most interesting restaurants around, then I don’t know what is. I knew this had been around for sometime, but I have been confused by the name, “Catering Kitchen”. Why would I go have a meal in a catering place? Well it turns out, it’s a full fledged restaurant. They certainly offer catering, and I know they do some special catered meals for holidays like Christmas, but that’s not why I’m here, Heck, I don’t know if I have enough area friends to order catering.

KOKO Japanese Grill Knoxville

KOKO Japanese Grill Knoxville is a hit with us!

We really enjoy ethnic food, and Japanese cuisine is no exception. We have a few favorites in this realm, but since a coworker recommends KOKO Japanese Grill constantly to me, I thought it’s time to give it a try. Besides, the Chinese new year is just one month away.  But I’m sure you knew that.  Let’s start celebrating it now!

Cherokee Grill in Gatlinburg TN

January 10, 2013

Cherokee Grill in Gatlinburg TN has been, well, my favorite restaurant in the greater Knoxville Area.   I can’t say East Tn., for Chattanooga has my true favorite.   What does it take to be my favorite?   I know your asking….   Well it doesn’t take kobe beef, or foie gras, it takes a few other things.   Number one, fresh food, homemade, and made to order.  Number two, it takes timely service with a smile, and number three, it must be a reasonable value.  I don’t want to feel like I was just robbed to eat what they served.    Now onto Cherokee Grill.

Tomato Head Brunch, Yum…

About the Restaurant

Tomato head has been around for awhile. Started in 1990, there is no doubt they have made some changes thru out the years. I have always known they were around, they have been mentioned numerous times in local publications and always seem to win quite a few food awards from area contests. I shamefully admit, I had never dined there until today, New year’s day 2013!  Time to get some Tomato Head Brunch.
